Katherine Mansfield (1888-1923) was short story writer and poet from New Zealand, who settled in England at the age of 19. Virginia Woolf and D.H. Lawrence were among her literary friends and admirers. She died of tuberculosis at the age of 34.

Katherine Mansfield (1888-1923) was een Engels schrijfster van vooral korte verhalen. Ze groeide op in Nieuw-Zeeland als dochter van een rijke koloniale handelaar en bankier. Ze verliet in 1903 Nieuw-Zeeland om te gaan studeren in Londen. Drie jaar later keerde ze terug naar haar geboorteland, maar kon er niet maar aarden in het bekrompen koloniale milieu waar ze was opgegroeid. Ze vestigde zich vanaf 1908 definitief in Europa, allereerst in Engeland.
